ACUPUNCTURE

Throughout a long and venerable history, a multitude of acupuncture theories and clinical systems have evolved. In some cases these have retained their original form, and in other cases, they have adapted to the passage of time, transforming under the scrutiny of clinicians and scholars. At Ancient Arts Acupuncture, our goal is to provide patients with the most effective natural remedies, herbal support, tcm (traditional Chinese medicine) and holistic care, both ancient and modern.

In keeping consistent with that philosophy, we offer several different acupuncture techniques. Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, Japanese Acupuncture, Auricular Acupuncture, Scalp Acupuncture, and Bio-Medical Acupuncture are utilized depending on the needs of the patient.

TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the current name for an ancient system of health care from China. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is based on a concept of balanced qi (pronounced “chee”), or vital energy, that is believed to flow throughout the body. Qi is proposed to regulate a person’s spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical balance and to be influenced by the opposing forces of yin energy and yang energy. Disease is proposed to result from the flow of qi being disrupted and yin and yang becoming imbalanced. Among the components of TCM are herbal and nutritional therapy, restorative physical exercises, meditation, acupuncture, and remedial massage.

HERBS

Herbs are often recommended because they are a natural treatment and are a powerful adjunct to acupuncture care. They are used to strengthen, build, and support the body or to clear it of excess problems like a cold, fever, or acute pain. Herbal remedies are often beneficial to build up your internal strength so that your body can receive the full benefits that acupuncture and holistic natural cures have to offer. All of the herbal formulations utilized in this office are manufactured in the United States. Please see our FAQ section of the website for your assurance of the purity, safety, and overall quality of these herbal remedies.

Chinese Herbal Medicine differs from many other herbal traditions in several important ways. Single herbs are rarely used in TCM. Rather, Chinese herbalists and physicians almost always prescribe herbs in complex formulas that contain anywhere from 5 or 6 to dozens of single herbs each chosen and balanced in dosage amount for the specific patient pattern. Herbal formulas take several things into consideration, including the symptom being treated, the cause of the disease, the patient’s constitution and even seasonal or environmental factors.

CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT

Safe and effective chiropractic treatment can relieve pain and improve function to elevate the overall quality of your life. We offer light force and non-force spinal chiropractic adjustments for the comfort of our patients. We specialize in restoring spinal alignment to relieve headaches, neck and low back pain, arthritis, sciatica, whiplash injuries, short leg syndrome, and shoulder and arm pain, as well as many other conditions.

By itself, chiropractic care can address a wide range of health issues, but when combined with acupuncture it creates an even more powerful synergistic healing effect.

PERCUTANEOUS ELECTRICAL NERVE STIMULATION

(P.E.N.S.) or Electro-Acupuncture is a powerful adjunctive modality when used in conjunction with acupuncture. This treatment releases a full range of endorphins and enkephalins to produce a high level of analgesia for pain management. It is used extensively for neck and back pain, neuralgia, and nerve paralysis. Electro-acupuncture is used for essentially the same diseases as regular acupuncture when additional stimulation to the needles is necessary. It is another natural treatment that is used in holistic care, alternative medicine, and Chinese medicine.

When used as a substitution for hand manipulation, electro-acupuncture can produce stronger but more controlled stimulation without inducing pain to the patient or creating tissue damage.More needles may be stimulated at once through parallel channels. And, when they are stimulated, the needles have a larger sphere of therapeutic influence on the tissue and nerves. This improves the bodies ability to heal itself which is the ultimate goal of natural treatments and alternative medicine.

LASER ACUPUNCTURE

Laser acupuncture is a relatively new method of stimulating acupuncture points using low-level cold laser beams instead of traditional acupuncture needles to stimulate the flow of energy from acupuncture points. Laser acupuncture is utilized for many conditions including smoking cessation, carpel tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, joint pain, and headaches. It is particularly useful for those people who wish to try acupuncture as a natural treatment alternative but have a fear of needles. Children are very receptive to laser treatment as opposed to being treated with traditional acupuncture needles.

CUPPING

Cupping is another natural treatment utilized in Chinese medicine which is designed to stimulate the flow of blood and Qi (energy) within the superficial muscle layers. It is used for sore muscles, tension, neck pain and the common cold. In this therapy, small glass cups are placed over specific areas on your body. A vacuum is created under the cup using heat or suction. They may be moved over an affected area or left in place. You may leave the office with slight redness of the muscles. There is no need for concern, as this will dissipate quickly. Cupping is another natural remedy that is used in conjunction with acupuncture and Chinese medicine to improve the bodies natural healing ability.

GWA SHA

Gwa Sha is another natural treatment technique used to release muscle tension, tightness, and constriction. A specialized tool is used to gently scrape or rub the skin over a problem area. Gwa Sha feels a bit like deep massage. This too may leave some slight redness which will dissipate quickly.

TDP LAMPS

TDP therapeutic lamps feature a coated plate with a proprietary mineral formation consisting of 33 elements. TDP lamps have successfully treated up to 60 million patients in Chinese medicine. When heated by an electric heating element, these mineral plates emit an electromagnetic wave in the infrared range.

In clinical applications, TDP lamps have been used in China and other Eastern Countries for over 15 years. They have proven to be effective for the treatment of joint pain, arthritis, back pain, injuries, and some skin conditions. In Chinese medicine, TDP lamps have been utilized as a natural treatment for many chronic conditions. Studies done in China show TDP lamps to be effective to help heal over 100 ailments. This is another natural healing treatment without any known side effects.

Fertility

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can help address the challenges of infertility in a number of ways. It is helpful for both male and female infertility. TCM and acupuncture help regulate hormones, enhancing reproductive health. They also improve ovarian function, improve egg quality, increase uterine blood flow and uterine lining thickness, increase sperm count, and decrease the chance of a miscarriage. TCM can be used in conjunction with IFV and IUI procedures to increase the likelihood they will be successful.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is the healing technique of manually manipulating the soft tissues of the body. The soft tissues include muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues. It is one of the oldest known healing modalities, with references to massage being known from ancient Egypt, China, India, Greece, and other areas. Massage can promote relaxation, reduce stress and anxiety, relieve pain, rehabilitate injured tissues, reduce inflammation, and increase one’s sense of well-being. Many types of massage therapy exist. It can be primarily for relaxation (such as Swedish massage) or for rehabilitation and pain relief (such as deep tissue massage). Massage also includes passive stretching and joint mobilization.
